The main raw material are ordinary clay brick, silty or sandy clay, whose main chemical composition are SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and crystal water. Due to the different geological formation conditions, they may also contain a small amount of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal oxides.

In addition to clay, we can use shale, coal gangue, fly ash and other raw materials to manufacture fired bricks, because their similar chemical compositions with clay. However, because their plasticity is less than  clay, it is necessary to add a certain amount of clay in order to meet the needs of the plasticity in the billet system. Bricks made with gangue and fly ash which is a combustible industrial waste containing un-burnt carbon. These bricks also roast inside in burning, and thus save a lot of coal. The type of brick is also known as internal combustion brick or half of the internal combustion brick.

The impact of raw materials on products

SiO2  content (55 ~ 70%)

High SiO2 content weakens the plasticity of raw materials, brick drying shrinkage and sintering shrinkage small, is conducive to rapid drying, but the low compressive strength. SiO2 content, frost resistance.

Al2O3  (10 ~ 20%)

Aluminum oxide content, firing temperature is too high, high refractoriness, frost resistance,

FeO (10%)

Iron oxide flux, too much content, firing temperature is low, the products refractoriness, and affect the color of the products. The combustion, the lack of oxygen displayed in black, oxygen-rich showing purple.

Limestone CaCO3 content <2%

Combustion temperature of 898.6 degrees Celsius, of CaCO3 decomposition out of CaO and CaO reaction with water to calcium hydroxide in the reaction volume expansion of 2 times the destruction of the internal structure.

CaO (0-15%), MgO (0-5%)

CaO and MgO is a strong flux, it will make the sintering temperature range becomes smaller, reducing the refractoriness of the products,

S2O3 (0 ~ 3%)

S2O3 in the raw materials, mainly in the form of sulfate when firing to produce sulfur dioxide gas corrosion of metals and affect the health of the operator,

Products pan-cream is in fact soluble sulfate within the brick with water was brought to the surface of the brick, affect the durability of the sulfur content of less than 1% to as little as possible.

Burning vector due to the existence of organic matter from the raw materials, generally clay content of 2.5% to 14%

The plasticity of raw materials containing organic matter is generally high, and high strength products dry, but the drying shrinkage, easy to crack, firing, burning vector products porosity is also higher, thus requiring the organic content of raw materials as little as possible.
